If your router has the wrong system timezone setting, the weather station may stop updating the Internet.

The router can reset it’s timezone to GMT. It definitely was not set up that way originally. This is a recognized problem with certain ASUS model routers and versions of the firmware.

The User Manual shows in detail how to connect your console to your WiFi router and the Internet, and here are the basic instructions:

  1. Press and hold the WI-FI / SENSOR button on the back of the console, for six seconds or more, the console green LED will flash. Make sure it is flashing green and not blue.

If it is flashing  blue, you did not hold the button long enough.

  2. Use your smart phone, tablet, or computer to connect to the console through WiFi. Note that when the console programming is complete, you will resume your default WiFi connection. Note that you cannot connect two devices at the same time when programming.
  3.  Once connected, enter the following IP address into any browser’s address bar:
    http://192.168.1.1

to access the console’s web interface:

Note: Some browsers will treat 192.168.1.1 as a search, so make sure you include the header http://, or:

    http://192.168.1.1 not 192.168.1.1

  4. Enter the following information into the web interface. Make sure all of the information is entered prior to selecting Apply. If you choose not to use Wunderground.com or AmbientWeather.net, leave the check boxes unchecked.

If the console connects to WiFi, and the WiFi icon is on, but the data is not reporting to AmbientWeather.net:

  1. Make sure the Upload ambientweather.net checkbox is checked.
  2. Make sure the MAC address matches the MAC address you registered online. Typos are very common.

If the outdoor temperature and humidity is not reporting on PWSWeather, but updating fine on AmbientWeather.net:

Unfortunately there is no way to support this device because it is handled as an 8-channel sensor and not an outdoor sensor like with traditional stations.

The issue is PWSWeather does not support channel 1-8 sensors.

WS-8482 Console and TX-3110B Wireless Thermo-Hygrometer sensor

WS-8482: How to reset the Console and Sensor:

To reset the TX-3110B Wireless Thermo-Hygrometer sensor please follow the steps below:

1.The WS-8482 supports seven wireless channels. If you have one sensor, leave the transmitter channel at Channel 1. If you have more than one sensor, set the appropriate channel, then power down and up the sensor (by removing and reinserting batteries).

Remote Sensor

2.Remove the batteries then check the terminals for any corrosion. Clean if dirty. Reinsert fresh lithium batteries, then press the RESET button (#4 in the image above). The LED Light (#1) will blink about once per minute. If the LED does not blink immediately after pressing the reset button, there may be a problem with low batteries or the sensor.

3. If the LED does not blink once per minute, replace the batteries with fresh high quality non-rechargeable batteries. We recommend Energizer Lithium Ultimate because of the wide temperature range and the battery chemistry (see article below). If the problem persists, the sensor will need replacing.

4.Make sure that the display console is showing the appropriate channel. For example, if you have only one sensor (Channel 1), makes sure the console is displaying Channel 1. To change the Channel number on the console, reference the Figure below (#3):

To Reset the WS-8482 console please follow the steps below:

  1. Press the reset button (#15 in the image below) , on the back of the console, for 5 seconds.

Press the Reset Button for 5 Seconds

The internet corrected time can be off by one hour even if the time zone and Daylight Savings Time (DST) is entered correctly due to a bug in the firmware.

If AC power is cycled with the back up battery installed (normal conditions), the clock will be off by one hour during Daylight Savings Time.

  1. To correct this, as a workaround, add +1 to your time zone. For example, if you live in the Eastern Time Zone, your time zone is normally set to -05. Set to -04 temporarily during DST.
  2. Press the RESET button on the back of the display console. You will be required to re-enter all of the settings again.

For products manufactured before the soil temperature and soil moisture tile was implemented on AmbientWeather.net (Feb 2019), there is a workaround.

The sensor will first appear as a temperature and humidity tile,  and will automatically convert to a Soil Temperature and Soil Moisture sensor tile after two data points are measured, based on the resolution of the sensor:

For example, if the sensor measures 93 and 99% (two data points), it detects  the sensor is a soil moisture and soil temperature sensor because of the 16-point resolution, and switches the tile automatically to Soil Moisture and Soil Temperature.

Why does my PWS/Personal Weather Station not show up on the map?

The models WS-8482  will not show up on the map. The reason is  channel based sensors, unlike our weather station arrays, and the sensors can be placed inside or outside. We found lots of sensors not being placed outside, which polluted the map with bad data.

The amount of uploaded data is dependent on the number of services you upload to, and sensors you own, but here is a rough guide:

For AmbientWeather.net upload every 12 seconds

Data stream: 174 Bytes

Total data in 24 hours: 86400/12 * 174 = 1252800 Bytes = 1.2MBytes (i.e.  36MB per month)

For WeatherUnderground.com: upload every 12 seconds

Data stream: 196 Bytes

Total data in 24 hours: 86400/12 * 196 = 1411200 Bytes = 1.34MBytes (i.e.  40MB per month)

The total is approximately 76MB per month.
