Your pool has a significant temperature gradient as a function of depth, particularly when the pool is exposed to direct sunlight. The pool temperature tends to decrease as a function of depth.

To test the accuracy of the sensor, remove it from the pool and set the floating pool and spa thermometer next to the display console. Allow it to stabilize for a couple of hours.

If you are comparing this temperature to another thermometer in your pool, you can place this thermometer next to the floating pool and spa thermometer as well.

The indoor and outdoor temperature should agree within the specified accuracy, +/- 2 degF.

If the sensor is out of specification, we have  a one year warranty. To replace under warranty, please visit: www.AmbientWeather.com/rma.html

If out of warranty, the floating pool and spa thermometer can be replaced here:

and

https://www.ambientweather.com/amf008pfn.html

Note that most consoles include a calibration feature that allow you to calibrate the temperature sensor to a known source.

The low voltage icon or indicator will be present on the console next to the sensor reading if the voltage falls below 2.4 Volts.

If you own more than one sensor, make sure the first sensor is on Channel 1 and the second sensor is on Channel 2.

To set the dip switches, please reference:

How Do I Set The Channel Number Using The Dip Switches In The Sensor?

Next, place all remote sensors about 10′ from the console, and then power down and up the display console. Do not touch any buttons for several minutes, until the search icon  on the display turns off.

If the problem persists, change the channel 2 sensor to channel 1 and visa versa (switch both sensor channels) and repeat the process above. Does the problem follow the sensor, or does it remain on channel 2?

If the sensor problem remains on Channel 2, the console will need to be replaced.

If the sensor problem moves to Channel 1, the sensor will need to be replaced.

We have a one year warranty. To replace under warranty, please visit:

If the temperature reads 88.8 and Channel 8, the sensor did not completely boot up. This is because during initial power up, all of the segments are illuminated.

Remove and reinsert the batteries. If you own the F007PF Floating Pool and Spa Thermometer, press the reset button on the inside lid.

  1. Sensor placement is important, since the wireless signal cannot pass through Earth or ground.  Tethering the sensor to the side of the pool that is line of sight to the sensor is recommended:
  2. Keep the console away from any electronic radiating sources, like phones, TVs and computers.
  3. If the sensor(s) have stopped communicating to your console,  it may be as simple as placing the remote(s) (powered up) about 10 feet away from the console, power down and up the console by removing one or more batteries, disconnecting from AC power (if applicable), wait 30 seconds, and put the batteries back in, then wait several minutes to resync. DO NOT TOUCH ANY BUTTONS and look for the search icon. Wait until the search icon turns off before pressing any buttons. If you have more than one sensor, make sure they are programmed to transmit on different channels.

The F007PF floating pool and spa thermometers will require regular maintenance due to the challenging environment.

Every season:

  1. Inspect and lubricate the O-Ring with silicon grease, available online and at hardware stores.
  2. Add a silicon gel or desiccant pack to help prevent condensation inside the unit, available online and at hardware stores.
  3. Inspect the batteries for corrosion. Replace corroded batteries. We recommend high quality lithium batteries.

Every Year:

Replace the batteries with fresh lithium batteries.

To set the channel number on your sensor, open the battery compartment and locate the dip switches:

For the floating pool and spa thermometer, it is on the inner lid.

Next, set the dip switches according to the table below:

For example, if you wish to set Channel 2, the first three dip switches are set to DOWN DOWN UP.

If you wish to set Channel 3, the first three dip switches are set to DOWN UP DOWN.

If the batteries have already been inserted into the sensor, you must power it down and up again by removing and inserting the batteries again.

The channel number will now be displayed on the LCD Screen (#3 below). For the F008PF, since it does not have an LCD display, will flash the channel number.

Can I Use the Pool Float (F007PF) under a Pool or Spa cover?

The F007PF is designed to float. If the F007PF is used under a cover and the sensor is constantly submerged, the additional pressure will lead to premature gasket failure. Moisture will enter the sensor compartment and cause sensor failure.
