AmbientWeather.net is not free – it costs a lot to develop and maintain. It does not make good business sense to allow other companies to benefit from the website, when they had no part in developing it.

WeatherUnderground.com has a completely different business model where they sell your data and push advertising.

Since we don’t make money on selling ads, we only offset the cost of our servers and maintenance by selling hardware, and if you are buying other hardware than our own, the hosting service would not survive.
